Primitive Fear

There is a fear emerging that artificial intelligence will replace us. It is difficult to articulate and almost impossible to argue someone into.

I wanted to give people a way to experience it instead. What would it actually feel like to live in a world where organic life has become expendable?

The original idea was simple: nature overcomes the machine.

A pack of African wild dogs encounters a robotic quadruped and survives through instinct, cooperation, and resilience.

The finished film became about something far more uncomfortable.

Throughout production, the AI models repeatedly generated the dogs stopping to attend to injured packmates.

At first this appeared to be a limitation of the models. Eventually it became clear that they were revealing something fundamental about the animal itself.

African wild dogs are among the most cooperative predators on Earth.Their success depends on trust, communication, and an extraordinary capacity to act as a collective.

The model wasn’t failing. It was drawing from observed reality.

Taking that seriously transformed the film.

The qualities that make the dogs so remarkable: loyalty, care, intuition, are ultimately what guarantee their deaths.

The machine has no equivalent instincts.

I chose the wildlife documentary format because it carries years of earned trust and authority.

Audiences know how to watch these films. They expect stories about nature, resilience, adaptation and survival.

I wanted to exploit that trust.

That meant protecting the documentary realism completely. If any part of the construction became visible, the format stopped working.

The footage alone didn’t make the idea clear enough.

I added the following narration:

"Out on the plains of the Savannah, a new form of intelligent life has emerged.

With swift execution, it eliminates its attackers, and is safe to continue on its journey."

Intelligent life. Attackers. Safe. Its journey.

Nothing in that language is untrue, yet it is intentionally misleading.

I wrote the narration as a complete inversion of the moral judgement we expect from the format.

It speaks from inside a world where greater significance has already been assigned to the machine.

The audience is never asked whether they accept that value system.

That decision has already been made. This is the result.

How it works

BER–66 is an independent creative practice.

An engagement begins with a conversation about the company, the idea, the audience and what is getting in the way.

From there, I ask for the material I need to understand the problem properly: internal thinking, research, positioning, product context, previous work or anything else relevant.

Then I investigate independently.

I look for where the resistance actually sits, what the audience needs to understand or feel differently, and how creative media can change that.

I return with what I have found, one recommended direction, and the reasoning behind it.

If we disagree, we find out why.

If feedback improves the answer, the work changes.

If it reveals that something fundamental has been misunderstood, we go back to the problem.

Once the direction is agreed, I take it through production, review and final delivery.

One film, developed and executed end to end.

Concept development, creative direction, AI image and video, voice and language, sound and music direction, editing and assembly are handled by me.

One round of refinement is included at concept stage and one at film stage.

You receive the finished master, agreed stills and supporting delivery documentation.

Additional films addressing the same communication problem can be developed within the engagement for US$5,000 each.

BER–66 uses AI as its production medium. I do not operate as a conventional live-action production company or ongoing social content studio.

CREATIVE INVESTIGATION

Not every problem needs a film.

BER–66 can also be brought in independently to investigate a communication problem, challenge existing thinking and develop ways it could be approached through creative media.

The investigation can be developed collaboratively with your team or independently.

You receive the written investigation whether or not we continue.

If the investigation develops into a film engagement, the fee is credited in full toward it.

CAMPAIGN EXTENSION

When the problem warrants it, I can extend the film engagement into release strategy, visual identity, written language, digital presence and public presentation.

These are scoped around the project rather than sold as a separate package.

I also work inside existing studio relationships.
